Day 32 The Holy Ghost and Understanding the procession in God from which He emanates.

In this episode we continue our discussion of Article VIII of the Apostle’s Creed “I Believe in the Holy Ghost.” In particular we discuss the two “processions” in God which are within Himself. One procession is from God’s intellect and is aptly called generation (by which the Word is conceived), the second is from God’s will (by which the Holy Ghost emanates). We take a brief look at three articles concerning these processions in the Summa Theologica. (ST. Ia. Q. 27. a2-4)

Day 31 I Believe in the Holy Ghost

In this episode we commence our study of Article VIII of the Apostles Creed, ” I Believe in the Holy Ghost.” We read the opening comments concerning tis article of faith in which the CCT explains that the third person of the Holy Trinity has no proper name of His own. For example, the name “Holy Spirit” might be applied to other members of the Holy Trinity as well. Nonetheless, we appropriate these words for lack of a name by which we might name “the procession” by which the Holy Ghost emanates from the Father and the Son. To understand the idea of procession in God better we return to the first part of the Summa Theologica in which St Thomas Aquinas asks the question “Whether there is procession in God?” (S.T. Prima Pars, Question 27. Article 1)

Day 28 Reflections on the Ascension

In this episode we wrap up our reading concerning the sixth article of the Apostles Creed concerning the Ascension of Christ. We see that Christ’s ascension is that to which His incarnation is finally ordered. The Ascension is the consummate fulfillment of the sacred scripture when Our Lord says He that is humbled shall be exalted. The ascension also serves to increase our Faith, Hope and Charity. In finishing our discussion we also read from the Summa Theologica of Saint Thomas Aquinas when he asks Whether Christ’s ascension is the cause of our salvation. (IIIa. Q. 57. A.6)

Day 27 He Ascended into Heaven, Sitteth at the Right Hand of God the Father Almighty

In this episode we commence our study of Article VI of The Apostles Creed. The sixth article is divided into two parts. The first part is “He Ascended into Heaven.” and the second part is “Sitteth at the Right Hand of the Father Almighty.” We explore the way in which Christ ascended into heaven both as man and as God. We also discuss the meaning of the words “sitteth” and “at the right hand.” To aid us in our study we take a brief look at four articles from the third part of the Summa Theologica concerning the Ascension of Christ. (S.T. Q 57. a. 1-3 and Q. 58. a.1)

Day 26 Useful Considerations About The Resurrection Of Christ

In this episode we conclude our study of Article V of the Apostles Creed “He Descended into Hell, The third day He rose again from the dead.” The Catechism sets forth four reasons why the resurrection is necessary: as manifesting God’s justice, increases our faith, increases our hope, and to complete the work of our salvation. We also discuss how Christ’s resurrection effects the resurrection of our bodies and our souls. (ST. IIIa. Q. 57. a.1 and a.2)

Day 25 The Third Day He Rose Again From The Dead

In this episode we focus on the second part of Article V of the Apostles Creed “Third Day He Rose Again From The Dead.” The Catechism instructs us about why it was appropriate that Christ rose on the third day – not sooner or later. It also tells us what perfect resurrection entails. Additionally, reading some brief sections from the “Tertia Pars” of the Summa Theologica we discuss five reasons why the resurrection was necessary. (ST. IIIa. Q. 53, a.1 a.2 a.3)

Day 24 “He Descended into Hell”

In this episode we begin our study of the fifth article of the Apostles Creed “He Descended into Hell, The Third Day He Rose Again From The Dead.” The Catechism explains that Christ descended into Hell in His Divine person united wholly to His Soul, while through His Divinity He also remained united to His body that remained in the sepulcher. We also take a brief look at Question 52 in the third part of the Summa Theologica which is devoted to Christ’s descent into Hell. In particular we look at the replies to article 1 and 2. (ST. IIIa Q. 52 a.1, a.2)

The Bitterness of Christ’s Passion

In this episode we conclude our reading and discussion of Article Four in the Catechism “He suffered died and was buried.” We focus specifically on the words of the Catechism as they concern themselves with the bitterness of the passion of Christ. Christ’s suffering exceeded the suffering of any man. We see that the Catechism follows the inspiration of St. Thomas Aquinas in this treatment of the passion of Christ in Part III of the Summa Theologica- particularly in questions 46-48. In this episode we read the replies of both articles 5 and 6 in Question 46. (i.e. S.T. IIIa, Q. 46. a. 5, a. 6)
